Discovering Ancient Oman

Hall 5

Tradition says that shortly after the beginning of the spread of Islam in the Arabian Peninsula, the Prophet sent a letter to the two kings of Oman, Abd and Jaifar, sons of Julanda, living in Sohar, exhorting them to become his followers. Delegations were exchanged to study and consider this, and Abd and Jaifar became believers and converted freely. From then Oman accepted Islam and became part of the Umayyad Caliphate until its fall, when a local Imamate was established.

During the Islamic period, around 1000 years ago, the site of Salut came again to the fore after a period of silence and abandonment.
