New York, Metropolitan Museum (38.40.114)
Glazed ware; D 25.4
Islamic Period: 900-1100
This complete glazed and “sgraffiato” plate is a beautiful exemplar of this typology, produced in the Islamic countries between the 10th and 13th centuries.
The decoration, over white slip, consists in incised patterns (depicting a kind of flower), splashed with yellow-brown and green glazes under a transparent glazing.
Fragments belonging to this ware category have been recovered in Islamic levels of Salut. (AL)
